Literacy PLCs:
Collaborative, Equity-Driven Internal Assessment Cycles
Rising Tide Charter Public School
In our direct work for Rising Tide Charter Public School, we led a schoolwide initiative to equitably close literacy gaps widened in the pandemic through collaborative Professional Learning Community (PLC) cycles. We provided assessment design support, data protocols, data visualization tools that allowed teachers to disaggregate results, instructional support and coaching, and action plan templates. This project allowed teachers to examine instructional practices for bias and make progress toward supporting all learners in reaching literacy standards. We provided analysis of best practices and support to diffuse those best practices through the school, and we identified areas the school could provide further support in instructional materials and student support services.
