Collaboration for Equity
In the Collaboration for Equity webinar series, educators learn practical strategies for optimizing collaborative conditions, strengthening collaboration skills in oneself and in others, unpacking power dynamics that impact group work, and assessing individual and team success. By the end of the series, participants feel prepared to facilitate and engage in equitable and effective collaboration, whether with colleagues or with students.
Session 1: Assessing Collaborative Conditions and Skills
In the Collaboration for Equity webinar series, educators make plans for fostering equitable and effective collaboration, whether in their professional teams or in their classrooms. During the introductory session, participants assess pre-existing collaborative conditions, including relationships, shared goals, roles and responsibilities, access to relevant data to inform action, schedules, and routines. Next, they assess the collaborative skills of themselves and of others, exploring competencies including active listening and other aspects of communication, perspective-taking, conflict management, and leadership. Throughout the session, participants practice strategies that they can use either with colleagues or with kids to foster collaborative conditions and to strengthen collaborative skills.
